Midfielder ignite interest of Manchester United again

Manchester United are known for their transfer sagas. They had a transfer saga to bring former star Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus from the clutches of their rivals. Even though Manchester City were not affected by this move it surely was a great saga. Another famous one is Jadon Sancho saga which finally ended after 2 years of speculations. However one saga which was also very intense was for Frenkie De Jong. It is speculated that the Midfielder ignite the interest of Manchester United and Ten Hag again.

After Erik Ten Hag was appointed as the Manchester United manager he instantly looked for players to complement his game style. He does not waste any time and tried to sign De Jong from Barcelona. In 2022, there was a rumour that United had agreed on a deal with Barcelona to sign Ten Hag’s former midfielder, but De Jong’s reluctancy over the move ended up preventing the deal from going through.

The midfielder has played a starring role for Barca this season, featuring in plenty of their games despite injury issues. He played sometimes at centre-back, also scoring twice. He also has a superb relationship with Ten Hag, his manager at Ajax. It was with Erik Ten Hag he had his breakout season with Ajax almost winning the treble. They crashed out of Champions League because of Tottenham’s incredible comeback and Lucas Moura’s hat trick.

Midfielder ignite interest for another Midfielder?

One of Manchester United’s best player this season is Kobbie Mainoo who has risen to fame this season for United. From an academy starlet on the fringes of the first team to a superstar who is now starting every week for the Red Devils.

There are many similarities between De Jong and Mainoo. In that sense, the Dutchman is the perfect player for Mainoo to learn from. Although still just 26 years old, he has bags of experience at the top level and is a very similar player to the United youngster.
