Ahead of the awaited London derby with Chelsea, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta gave an important injury update. Key players Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, and Leandro Trossard have raised fitness concerns. They pulled out from international squads recently because of different issues. Thus, their participation in the upcoming match remains uncertain.
Saka and Trossard are dealing with hamstring issues. Meanwhile, Saliba struggles with a big toe problem. Arsenal urgently needs these players in top shape. They’re preparing to challenge a strong Chelsea team. This Chelsea team boasts of a robust defense and remarkable attacking skills.
Fitness Examination
Arteta revealed plans for a final fitness check on Friday, October 20. This check aims to prepare for the Saturday match against Chelsea. Over the past ten days, 14 Arsenal players have taken international duties.
This has left the squad rather stretched. However, Arteta hasn’t made a final decision regarding player availability for the match.
“After today’s training session, we’ll know more,”
said Arteta. He knows the complications of managing a short-staffed team. So, he stresses the need to evaluate player conditions before setting the first team.
Mental and Physical State of Arteta’s players
Speaking about Bukayo Saka, Arteta believes the young star is keen to play against Chelsea. Saka has been pushing hard to regain his fitness. During his short break, he underwent both treatment and training.
“Every player, including Saka, wants to start,”
Arteta commented.
“He’s been training intensely for this match. He did take a short break, but it wasn’t all relaxation. He underwent necessary treatment and training to potentially face Chelsea.”
Including Saka in the team will require both mental and physical readiness. Mikel Arteta wrapped up by saying,
“Playing time is about merit. But when Saka gets substantial minutes, we believe he can handle it.”
As the Chelsea match looms, Arsenal fans eagerly wait. They’re keen to hear if these pivotal players will be fit. Securing a win in the London derby is the hope on everyone’s mind.
