Mikel Arteta confirms training ground changes for Martin Odegaard

In a recent interview, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta explained that he has made changes in training for Martin Odegaard. The manager also confirmed that the changes may take three months or six months to show on the pitch.

Martin Odegaard initially joined the Premier League side on loan from Real Madrid last January. The club let him return to his parent club in the summer. But later signed the attacking midfielder on a permanent basis for a reported fee of €35 million in the summer transfer window.

The Norwegian star has made a total of 33 appearances across all competitions this term. In this time he has recorded a decent goal output. He has recorded six goals and four assists. (stats via Transfermarkt) The 23-year-old was recently handed the captain’s armband by his manager Mikel Arteta after Alexandre Lacazette missed the game due to personal issues.

Martin Odegaard was also named as the captain of his national side Norway last term, at just 22-years of age.

Mikel Arteta’s comments on changes in training for Martin Odegaard 

Speaking to Norwegian outlet TV2 about the club’s training in recent weeks, Mikel Arteta said:

“What we are working on now, you will see in three months or six months. What Martin is doing now, you do not see on the field now. We see it in three months, six months or a year,”

“Right now you may see the results of some of what he has been working on for the last six months. People said that he was unstable, that he could not do this and that, but then he filled out the form to be ready now.”

Gunner’s manager Mikel Arteta handed Martin Odegaard the captain’s armband for the narrow 1-0 defeat against Southampton last week. Talking about the captaincy situation at the club and the possibility of Martin Odegaard being named as Arsenal captain next summer, Mikel Arteta said:

 “He certainly has all the qualities to do that, absolutely. Talking to his national team coach and how highly they speak of him. He walks through the corridor and everybody loves him.”

“He is such a nice, humble guy and he leads with the way he is. It is very natural for him and that will come.” “He represents everything we want in this club – he is a good option for the captaincy.”
