The ICC Women’s World Cup is going to take place early next year. However, the National Women’s team of India will only play one more series before the marquee event. Indian skipper Mitali Raj feels that the team is undergoing the best preparation for the event.
Over the last year or so, India has only played three series. They hosted the South African team first and then went to England and Australia to play the next two series. But the result has not been positive because the Indian team lost all three series. Although the team played well and showed great character in Australia as they lost the series 2-1. Certainly, India lost the series but their win held in breaking the 26-match winning streak of the Aussies.
India will play against New Zealand the World Cup hosts before the marquee event. Mithali said,
“We have played three best teams since March and it has given us good preparation. Players have played domestic cricket and also in the Women’s Big Bash so they are getting game time which is the most important thing. We are getting to play in New Zealand before World Cup which is also good.”
Mithali Raj about teams improvement
Previous Women In Blue were unable to post targets of 250 plus regularly. However, in the Australia series, they once crossed the 250 mark to set the target and even chased down 265 to win the last match. According to the skipper more of such performance and consistency is something that the team needs the most.
She has seen recently that the Women’s team is facing problems in the middle order. Although the skipper thinks that the middle order is not firing but to win the World Cup every department should perform extremely well if we want to win.
Mithali Raj thinks that pointing out any particular position won’t help the team. The whole team needs to work together and try to reach the targets. So that the pressure does not fall on selected individuals and they don’t fill it as a burden.
Indian Women’s team were the runners-up of the 2017 World Cup. However, at that time not many expectations were there but in the upcoming World Cup for sure there will be more expectations from the team.
The skipper thinks that India has a very young squad and have huge potential. All they need is to gell-up well and give their best in every match.
