Mo Salah reveals one of the toughest Chelsea defenders he faced has left in the summer

Liverpool superstar Mo Salah shares one of the toughest defenders he faced left Chelsea in the summer. Salah was praising former Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta. The Spanish defender spent 11 years at Stamford Bridge before securing a move to Atletico Madrid this summer. It will be a joy for Chelsea fans to watch the 34-year old veteran start well in Spain. The veteran defender has made 11 appearances for Atletico so far. He played as a centre-back, right-back and left-back during his spell in Premier League. Moreover, he was one of the elite defenders of the league for a considerable time as well.

Mo Salah was speaking to Sky Sports about who is the toughest left-back he has faced. The Egyptian said,

“Azpilicueta was tough. I know in the end he ended playing right side but Azpilicueta was really tough.”

The African also names another former Chelsea star adding,

“I played with Ashley [Cole], oh my god. The way he reads the game was unbelievable… He’s very smart. He’s not the tallest. He reads the game and he’s really tough.”

This is a huge praise for Cesar from someone like Salah. The winger is one of the best players to ever feature in English top flight. Though, Azpilicueta is deprived of the credit he is worthy of. The defender won a Champions League, a Europa League and Premier Leagues during his tenure with Chelsea. During the reign of Jose Mourinho, he was particularly solid in a 1v1 situation. Though, it feels that he left England at the right time. The speed of the league was too much for him at this age. Nevertheless, the comments from Mo Salah is a reminder of how good of a servant was Cesar for Stamford Bridge.
