Mohammed Shami granted bail: Domestic violence case by estranged wife

Mohammed Shami granted bail along with his brother in a domestic violence case filed by estranged wife.

Shami and his wife Hasin Jahan controversy broke the internet in 2018. Hasin Jahan accused Mohammed Shami of domestic Violence and extramarital affairs. Moreover, Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife also indicted him for adultery, rape, and a heinous crime in the game of cricket that is match-fixing.

In addition, BCCI also decided to withhold Mohammed Shami’s contract. However, the cricketer denied all the allegations claimed by his wife. Mohammed Shami career went for a toss after this incident.

Later, BCCI cleared the match-fixing allegations against Mohammed Shami. However, Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife filed a complaint against him and his brother at the Jadavpur police station in Kolkata. The FIR log was under Indian penal code sections 498A(cruelty to women by their husbands as well as relatives), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Hasin Jahan filed a complaint against Mohammed Shami and his in-laws on March 8, 2018.

On September 20, 2023, Mohammed Shami appeared in the court. The court proceedings started, and the lawyer of the cricket put in a bail plea. As a result, Mohammed Shami and his brother were eventually granted bail.

Shami’s counsel Salim Rahaman was quoted by The Telegraph saying

Police have filed a charge sheet against Md Shami and his brother. The law states that once the charge sheet is submitted, the accused will have to appear before the court and seek bail in self defense. Accordingly we appeared before the court today and moved a bail prayer. The court has granted bail to both the siblings. Shami will henceforth participate in the upcoming legal proceedings in this case as required in law”
