MS Dhoni is retained by CSK for the next three years, Lucknow can be led by KL Rahul, Will Rahul stay in Punjab?

A mega auction is going to be held for the 2022 IPL season as two new teams are being added. According to the reports, it is reported that CSK is going to retain MS Dhoni for the next three years. Dhoni has been the Captain of the team from the starting of the IPL and has lifted the trophy 4 times. 

Moreover, star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad who won the 2021 IPL Orange Cap have also been retained by the franchise. However, for the fourth spot, talks are being held with Moeen Ali and it is reported that if he does not accept the offer they might go with another English all-rounder in the form of Sam Curran.

Earlier BCCI released the retention policies for the IPL 2022 before the mega auction. According to the policies a team can retain a maximum of 4 players but a condition that three will have to be Indian and one overseas or two Indian and two overseas. The final list of the players retained is to be submitted by 30th November. As the mega auction is set to take place in December, it will be fascinating to see which team retains which four players to make it the core of their team. After that, they will go into the auction to make their teams. Most importantly Dhoni will be seen wearing the iconic yellow jersey again.

“Again, I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in. We have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years. Still, I haven’t left behind,”

KL Rahul is most likely to leave Punjab and lead Lucknow

According to the reports, KL Rahul is not very certain àbout continuing with PBKS. He is in talks with the Lucknow franchise and might be the one who will lead them. The owners of both the new franchise Lucknow and Ahmedabad are holding talks with the star players.

DC’s likely retention

Meanwhile, DC is going to retain their captain Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Axar Patel, young opener Prithvi Shaw and South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje. DC’s previous captain Shreyas Iyer wanted to lead the team again but the management is happy with Pant and is willing to let Iyer go.

According to many reports, it is sure that Rahul has already decided to leave the Punjab franchise. He has informed the franchise about his intentions. Moreover, Rahul is very happy with the contract offered to him by the Lucknow franchise and their project. He has made his views clear that he wants to leave Punjab and be the leader of the Lucknow franchise.
