Newcastle United announce partnership with StatsBomb

Premier League side Newcastle United have announced a partnership with football analytics specialist StatsBomb. StatsBomb will help the club with official data and act as the club’s official analytics provider. The multi-year partnership between the two sides was made public on Monday.

The Newcastle United owners are willing to go to extreme extends to guarantee success on the pitch. The owners invested well over £90 million in the January transfer market to help the club survive the relegation dog fight. The club signed Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, Chris Wood from Burnley, Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon, Matt Targett from Aston Villa, and Dan Burn from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The money spent in January has already helped the club. Newcastle United have picked up three successive wins in the league. While they are undefeated in their last five league games. Firstly, reports suggest that the money spent in the January transfer window is just the first phase of a major rebuild at St James’ Park. Secondly, the owners are expected to invest a lot more money to bring in reinforcement in the summer transfer window. The recruitment process in the summer transfer window will be assisted by analytics and data provided by StatsBomb.

How will the partnership with StatsBomb help Newcastle United?

The official announcement suggests that the deal will help Newcastle United in:

‘As well as enhance the club’s tactical decisions and talent identification process’ 

Newcastle United’s first-team staff and manager will be provided with data from thousands of matches. Firstly, this will in turn help the staff and the players to get garner insights on upcoming opponents. Secondly, as well as help in identifying potential transfer targets in the future transfer windows.

Last year StatsBomb also stuck a partnership with Brazilian club Clube Atlético Mineiro. In conclusion, the partnership helped the Brazilian club receive the company’s data covering over 3,400 events per match. This included data from multiple different leagues and competitions across the planet.
