Newcastle

Newcastle United have announced the signing of Lewis Hall from Chelsea. The Magpies have signed Hall on a season-long loan, that too quite an expensive one. According to SkySports, Newcastle will have to pay £28m to Chelsea at the end of the season-long loan, with potential £7m in add-ons The deal also has an option to buy clause, allowing Newcastle to sign Hall after his current deal expires next summer.

Lewis Hall is regarded as one of the most talented players to emerge from Chelsea’s academy system. The 18-year old made his senior team debut for Chelsea last season making 9 appearances for The Blues so far. His performance for Chelsea and mainly the England U-21s has been impressive. This even led Chelsea to offer a long-term contract to Lewis. Hall signed a six-year deal with The Blues before making a move to Saint James.

Hall joins his boyhood club, Eddie Howe excited to have him

Lewis Hall spoke about the delight he feels to join Newcastle. In his first interview after the transfer, Hall spoke about how his admiration for the Magpies and his ambitions for the club. Being a fan of the club since a kid, Hall said: “I’m very proud. Me and my family are Newcastle fans, and for me and my brother growing up, it was drilled into us that we were Newcastle. It’s a big club and I can’t wait to get started.”I got a lot of experience last year in some big fixtures and I was really proud of the way I progressed as a player. To now be here at Newcastle, the club that I’ve supported since I was a kid, I’m honoured and very proud to wear this shirt.”

Eddie Howe also expressed his happiness on signing the talented defender. “I’m delighted to welcome Lewis to Newcastle United. He is a player we have tracked closely, as have a number of clubs, so it’s very pleasing to secure him and to add a player of his quality, versatility and high potential to our squad”, spoke Howe.

Will Newcastle make more signings?

This is Newcastle’s 5th signing of the summer after the major signings of Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes, Livramento and Minteh. Eddie Howe might have hinted that this could be Newcastle’s final signing of the summer. However, it wouldn’t be suprising if they decide to spend a little more from their huge transfer budget.

Newcastle’s squad looks in great shape and ready for the season. The Magpies had a cracking start to the new season, beating Villa 5-1. It clearly showed that Newcastle mean business this season and look absolutely solid. However, their 1-0 defeat against City might suggest that there still might be a slight difference between them and the world’s best teams. This could potentially lead to Eddie Howe looking to make 1 or 2 more signings.
