Newcastle United are reportedly interested in Manchester United‘s Jesse Lingard in the January transfer window.

Following the takeover by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, Newcastle have been linked with a number of superstars like Antony Martial, Eric Baily, Philippe Coutinho, Alexandre Lacazette.

Newcastle United are likely to make a move for a midfielder during the January transfer window. And Jesse Lingard ticks all the boxes for Newcastle United. Newcastle owners have kept a reported budget of £190m for the January transfer window. And are keen to bring in new faces to bolster the squad.

Jesse Lingard revived his career last season during an impressive loan at fellow Premier League side West Ham United. Jesse scored nine goals and recorded a further five assists in 16 league appearances for West Ham United. He also helped West Ham secure Europa League qualification.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær decided to keep Jesse Lingard at the club this summer. And blocked a transfer approach from West Ham. But minutes have been hard to come by for Jesse again. And he has made just five appearances off the bench in the Premier League. But he has scored two goals in the restricted playtime.

Lingard has suggested that he may need to leave United for regular playtime in order to secure a place in England’s World Cup squad next year. Lingard said ‘Obviously, the World Cup is a long way away but you need regular football. I was so close to going to the Euros. And I think it plays a huge part and it’s a big factor’.

His contract at Manchester United runs only till the end of this season. And he is allowed to talk to clubs in January to sign a pre-contract. Manchester United already have a lot of attackers. And with Marcus Rashford returning from injury, the competition for places at United is getting tougher and tougher. United may be tempted to let the English attacking midfielder go in January to free up some wages and bring in a bit of extra cash.
