According to the latest reports, Leeds United now joined the race for the signature of Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe. A Spanish report also detailed for how little Arsenal are looking to offload their record transfer holder.
It seems Pepe’s stint as a Gunner will come to an end. Selling him this term will procure the much needed fund to bring in a replacement for the Ivorian. He joined the club only in 2019 summer when Emery was still the boss. During this stint, he managed to score only 27 goals and assisted 21 times in 112 appearances. But the Gunners had to spill £72 million at that time, which is still a club record fee. Looking at this stat, clearly he didn’t justify his price tag.
Arsenal thinking to sell Nicolas Pepe
According to The Sun, Arsenal would look at the opportunity to sell Pepe this summer. They are ready to take the massive hit in his market value and can accept a bid in the region of £25 million. According to a previous report from Superdeporte, Sevilla also registered interest in signing him. However, Pepe’s wages, which is in excess of £100k per week can pose a challenge for the Spanish club.
On the other hand, with the departure of Raphinha to FC Barcelona, Leeds United will look to sign a replacement. Now, he can be a serious contender to fill the spot left by the Brazilian ace. The Elland Road outfit signed Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord, although he mainly is a left winger. Leeds also has Dan James in their squad and he might start from the right wing. However, signing Pepe can prove to be an upgrade over the Welshman.
Other than Leeds United, speculations are also on that Pepe could return to France, preferably to Olympique Marseille or Olympique Lyon. But still Leeds United looks the favourite right now.
