Norwich City set to loan in Brandon Williams

Norwich City are known to be holding advanced talks for Brandon Williams of Manchester United. The Canaries are currently winning the race for the full-back, ahead of other potential suitors.

Williams has also been on the shortlist of Southampton and Newcastle. However, the Red Devils have been unwilling to loan him out in previous windows. He was back-up to Luke Shaw and Alex Telles at left-back and even Aaron-Wan Bissaka at right-back.

Although, since returning from loan, Diogo Dalot has been impressive. He successfully convinced Solskjaer of his abilities and is now part of the gaffer’s future plans. This permits Brandon Williams a temporary move away from Old Trafford.

A bargain for the Canaries

The England Under-21 international will become Norwich’s second domestic loan for the new season, following Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour. The agreement is close to completion. However, Solskjaer’s men are eager to face Southampton before officially sanctioning the move.

Meanwhile, Alex Telles is still working his way back to full fitness following injury.

Norwich will be paying significantly lower than what United would ideally want for Williams. Initially, they had been looking for a loan fee of £2,000,000.

Southampton, Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle United are admirers of the defender and have been in queue for him. Nonetheless, it is fairly certain that Carrow Road will be the 20-year-old’s destination.

Williams was on the bench for United’s 5-1 thumping win over Leeds on Saturday. He becomes Norwich’s 7th senior signing of the summer. On Tuesday, Bournemouth visit for the EFL Cup second round. There is a chance he could make his debut then.

The Englishman has scored one goal and set up three more in 50 games at Old Trafford. His current deal runs until 2024 with the option of a year’s extension.
