Asia Cup is not merely India and Pakistan. Other teams also participate in the contest, says Indian cricket team skipper Rohit Sharma. The last season winners were the underdog Sri Lanka.

ASIA CUP 2023

Rohit Sharma, captain of the Indian cricket team, addressing the question about the match against Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup, gave a forthright response. In an interview with Vimal Lumar on YouTube, he said the it isn’t about only India and Pakistan. He further praised team Sri Lanka and said that they played quality cricket. In addition, Rohit Sharma added that other nations apart from India and Pakistan also participate in the tournament. Lastly, he voiced that all the teams can win the title. One cannot consider any respective team as a favorite.

Rohit Sharma stated

“We shouldn’t say the Asia Cup is between India and Pakistan – there are other teams as well. Last year Sri Lanka won the tournament, they played good cricket. So, we can’t count anyone out because anyone can win the Asia Cup. It’s never about one team, we’ll need to focus on all the participants”

Rohit Sharma further stated that the Asia Cup is a fair contest to inspect one’s skills and ability to handle pressure under any circumstances. He added that it’s adequate that the tournament is happening just before the World Cup.

“It’s a good tournament where your skills, playing under pressure will be tested. I look at it as a good competition in the build up to the ODI World Cup. We’ll need a few answers and tick a few boxes and so it’s the right time to play this tournament. Our first aim is to do well in the Asia Cup and then think about the rest of the matches of the World Cup later”
