Pakistan’s former skipper Shahid Afridi revealed on a live television show about his daughter waving the Indian tricolor. It was at the Dubai International Stadium during the Super Four clash between India and Pakistan on 4th September 4. While speaking to Samaa TV, the legendary Pakistan player stated about the shortage of Pakistan flags at the stadium. , so his daughter had to wave India’s flag during the game.
He said,
“My wife told me that there were barely 10% Pakistani fans in the stadium and the rest were Indian fans. Pakistani flags were not available there so my younger daughter was waving the Indian flag. I received the video, but I was unsure about whether to share it online or not.”
Initially in the Asia Cup group stage, India defeated Pakistan. However, in the Super 4, Pakistan equaled the ratio. Pakistan successfully chased the target of 182. They lost five wickets, henceforth touching the mark in 19.5 overs. Moreover, Pak’s keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan hammered 71 runs in 51 balls. Meanwhile, Mohammad Nawaz’s promotion up the order has been a blessing for Pakistan. He smashed 42 runs off 20 balls, which gave great company to Rizwan’s innings.
Initially, India put 181 on the board by losing seven wickets in 20 overs. Despite everything, India’s biggest positive will be Virat Kohli coming back to form. He registered 60 runs from 44 balls. Shaded Khan, however, took two wickets for Pakistan.
Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the final
Eventually, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the final, by 23 runs. Sri Lanka posted a target of 171 on the board for Pakistan. Defending the target, Sri Lanka bundled out Pakistan for just 147 in 20 overs. Pramod Madushan, especially Wanindu Hasaranga were in their beast mode. Madushan took four wickets while Hasaranga bagged three wickets. Meanwhile, Chamika Karunaratne also grabbed two wickets.
While Sri Lanka was losing speedy wickets, it was Bhanuka Rajapaksha who took the burden on his shoulders, with the likes of Hasaranga. Rajapaksa played an unbeaten inning of 71 runs off 45 balls, henceforth reaching 170 in 20 overs. Hasaranga smashed 36 runs off 21 balls. Meanwhile, Haris Rauf of Pakistan bagged three wickets.
After the win in the Asia Cup final, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka said,
“We played last year’s qualifiers as well … it’s the set-up that has come through from three or four years back. The last two years were really good for us … and winning Asia Cup will really help for the … World Cup. The World Cup qualifiers will help as well because we will play in those conditions before the main tournament happens so it’ll be really good for us.”
