According to El Nacional, Romelu Lukaku is on the radar of Paris Saint-Germain. The Belgian international was included in controversy after his interview with Sky Italia. He said that he was unhappy at Chelsea and would love to return to Inter Milan. Consequently, Tuchel excluded Lukaku from the squad to face Chelsea as a punishment.
However, the 28-year-old returned to the squad in Chelsea’s FA Cup fixture and was on the scoresheet. Nevertheless, he is linked with a move away from Chelsea and PSG seems interested. The French outfit is prepared to offer €90 million for the Belgian international. This deal may lure the striker away from London as he may continue to face some backlash for his comments.
The star man of PSG Kylian Mbappe is likely to join Real Madrid in the summer. Therefore, PSG are seeking a replacement for their talisman and Romelu Lukaku is the name they are considering. Lukaku is the most expensive player ever in accumulated transfer fees after his return to Chelsea. If the move to PSG goes through then the accumulated transfer fees can rise even more.
Lukaku has scored eight times and assisted two in 20 appearances in all competitions. He is not having the season he thought he would have at Chelsea. However, he had a significant season at Inter and he is capable of performing well in an environment that suits him.
What can Romelu Lukaku offer Paris Saint-Germain?
Lukaku has had some great moments in his career and is one of the best strikers in the world when he is enjoying his form. He has been phenomenal for Belgium and has had great stints at several big clubs. Although it will be very difficult to replace someone like Mbappe who is constantly included in Balon d’Or talks.
Lukaku is a strong and pacey striker who can play as a target man. He has the ability to hold or stretch the defensive line of opponents. Moreover, he is also very strong at winning aerial duels and also in physical battles. He can also use his pace on the counter to punish the opponents. However, few questions can be asked on his defensive contribution.
He is at times criticized as he has his back at goal far more times than it should be. However, he can do very well if he is surrounded by great players and a good tactical system. PSG has some of the best players in the world that can profit Lukaku but Pochettino will have to find a system that includes all the players and Lukaku. He has some complaints with Tuchel for not playing a system that suits Lukaku.
Lukaku’s long-term future at Chelsea is still questionable and he might get lured away from PSG’s offer. Paris wants to win the Champions League and can offer a lucrative deal to Lukaku. However, there will still be doubts if he will succeed at PSG as he has had some off moments with some of the clubs he has played for.
