Paris Saint-Germain reportedly wants to offer Lionel Messi a contract extension.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in extending the contract of Lionel Messi. He made a shock switch to Parc des Princes last summer. The legendary forward was handed a two-year deal.

However, the forward is yet to decide on the extension. He will reportedly take the decision after the FIFA World Cup. The club sees him in both short-term and long-term plans.

According to reports, the Argentine will be given the opportunity to commit future with Ligue 1 champions. The move comes after PSG have made significant changes to its coaching and transfer setup. However, the report also adds that no formal contract has been presented to his representatives. Although, there is desire to hold discussions regarding the same.

While a backup to Kylian Mbappe is expected to be signed. However, the French giants will not sign a player that will challenge the place of Lionel Messi in the team. There are also some reports of him linking to a return to Barcelona. The reports also states that he wants to achieve some incomplete objectives with the Catalan club. However, the forward will have to take a large pay cut. This is due to their financial situation. Some rumors of him linking up with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City are also popping up daily.

Messi endured somewhat of an indifferent campaign despite helping the club win another Ligue 1 title last season. The forward netted just six times in 26 league appearances. This was his worst return since 2005-06. PSG also bowed out of last season of Champions League after a dramatic collapse against Real Madrid.
