Newcastle United were ready to break the bank to sign Patrik Schick in January. The 24-year-old forward has been one of Europe’s best strikers after his phenomenal performances in the Euro 2020. He was tied for being the top goalscorer in the Euros but Cristiano Ronaldo had one assist to his name which made him the golden boot winner.

Newcastle United saw themselves deep inside the relegation zone before the January transfer window. They are now out of the relegation zone, thanks to their new arrivals in January. They signed Chris Wood from Burnley who has helped them in their battle to get out of the relegation zone. However, the Magpies were also interested in signing Patrik Schick.

Schick has attracted attention from many clubs in Europe as Arsenal and Tottenham are also keeping their tabs open on the player. Newcastle could still sign the player in the summer to strengthen their squad and seal a finish in the top half of the table next season. He has scored 20 goals in Bundesliga making him the second-highest goal scorer in the league above Erling Haaland.

Newcastle are ready to offer £42 million to Bayer Leverkusen and will not be shy to increase the price. The Saudi takeover has made Newcastle one of the favored destinations for the players. This is what former West Ham player Reece Oxford had to say about Patrik Schick,

“His movement, body position. He’s left-footed, tall, fast. He has got everything.”

Why Newcastle is ready to break the bank for Patrik Schick?

The 21-year-old forward has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season. He has very good finishing qualities which is what everyone is looking for in their striker. Schick does not look like stopping and has all the qualities necessary in a striker. He is also very good at winning aerial duels and has good link-up skills to include others in the play.

Patrik Schick takes 3.1 shots per game and also completes 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored). His strong goalscoring ability is what is attracting all the attention of other clubs. Newcastle has Chris Wood and they could use another striker to succeed. Newcastle will need strong quality in depth to compete for trophies.

Patrick Schick could be Newcastle’s main striker with Chris Wood as their second striker. If in case, Schick gets injured or suspended, Newcastle will still have a very good option to start in their lineup. Schick has the potential to bring Newcastle on top again and also cause upsets in the Premier League.

However, Newcastle will have to do something extra to attack Patrik Schick. He has expressed that he wants to stay at Leverkusen as he has changed six clubs in six years. Newcastle will also have to offer him high wages or else another club could snatch him away from them. Schick’s abilities certainly look like they will take over the Premier League by storm.
