Peterborough turn down Bournemouth bid for attacker Siriki Dembele

Bournemouth have shown interest in signing Peterborough’s forward Siriki Dembele. According to DorsetLive, Peterborough have turned down two bids from Bournemouth for the attacker.

The two bids are believed to be in low millions. The initial offer was £1 million, and the second was £1.5 million. Both the bids were rejected by the Posh as they believe the player is more valuable than that.

Bournemouth have already signed Ethan Laird from Manchester United and James Hill from Fleetwood Town this month. But manager Scott Parker has stated that they are yet to conclude their January transfer business.

Peterborough’s director of Football, Barry Fry has recently come out in an interview to confirm Bournemouth’s failed bid to sign Siriki Dembele. The two offers made for the attacker were in the low millions.

Speaking to the club’s official media team (Peterborough Telegraph), Fry revealed:

Siriki and his agent came to see me and we had a long discussion about things.

The next day we had a bid from Bournemouth which we turned down immediately and the day after that we had another bid which we also rejected. Bournemouth are managed by Scott Parker who was always keen on Siriki when he was at Fulham.

Siriki can sign a pre-contract with whoever he likes on February 1st.

But, he could also get his head down and show his best form for us.

Bournemouth might be back again, but I will be glad when the transfer window shuts next week (January 31) as it’s unsettling for players and speculation is doing us no good in our situation.

Will Siriki Dembele make the move to Bournemouth this month?

Dembele only has six months left on his contract at the Posh. He will be available at no cost for any buyers next summer. He has turned down the renewal contracts offered by the clubs.

The 25-year-old was omitted from Peterborough’s recent game against Birmingham with many reports suggesting it was due to transfer speculations around the player. But their manager Darren Ferguson has dismissed the rumors in his press conference.

The statement from Peterborough’s Barry Fry makes it quite clear that they have no intention of letting the Scottish forward leave this month. This unequivocally means that the player will leave for free in the summer.

The Posh are 22nd on the Championship table with 20 points and are 2 points off safety with a game in hand. Keeping Dembele could be vital for them to avoid relegation. He has scored 5 and assisted 2 goals so far this season in 24 appearances.

With less than a week remaining in this months transfer window, it looks like Bournemouth will have to look elsewhere for an attacker. They might not wait for Dembele till the end of the season as they need to strengthen their squad for the promotion push.
