Pochettino, Chelsea identify their next two transfer targets

Pochettino

Plans of Pochettino at Chelsea are becoming evident as the club prepares for a busy transfer window. N’Golo Kante has already left for Al-Ittihad, and now Ziyech, Koulibaly, and Mendy are set to join him in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Kai Havertz’s move to Arsenal and Mateo Kovacic’s transfer to Manchester City are nearing confirmation.

Pochettino and Chelsea shift their focus to their next priorities after the outgoing transfers being finalized. The immediate objective for Pochettino is to facilitate Mason Mount’s move to Manchester United. The Red Devils have already made two formal bids and are preparing another, with a reported offer of over £55 million. However United may walk away from the deal.

Chelsea and Pochettino making their moves now

Acquiring Moises Caicedo is also high on Pochettino’s wish list now after clearing up the deadwood. Chelsea are willing to submit an £80 million proposal for the player. However, the club is currently prioritizing Mount’s exit before making an official approach to Brighton for Caicedo.

Chelsea and Pochettino, however, need to balance their books to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. This explains their focus on Mount’s departure before pursuing Caicedo. However, delaying an official offer for Caicedo could be risky if Manchester City wins the battle for Declan Rice. Then Arsenal would go all in for Caicedo and this would impact Chelsea’s decision to sign him.

Besides, Manchester United is growing frustrated with Chelsea’s valuation of Mount. There are reports that Pochettino may shift his attention from Mount to Caicedo.

This could pose a double blow to Pochettino and Chelsea, potentially losing their main summer target while Mount remains at the club, running down his contract and leaving for free in 2024. Fans eagerly await the outcome of this situation as they don’t want an unhappy player at the club for one more year and lose him out on free later on.
