Mauricio Pochettino, the new Chelsea boss, has shown a different approach by actively engaging with his young players, reaching out to Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke.

In his first press conference as Chelsea manager, Pochettino has shown a distinct departure from his predecessors by actively engaging with the club’s young players. Unlike past managers who prioritized immediate results, Pochettino is laying the groundwork for the club’s long-term future.

Nonetheless, Pochettino’s proactive approach was evident as he reached out to Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke, both of whom were representing England at the U21 Euros. Pochettino confirmed,

“We spoke yesterday with Levi [Colwill] and Noni [Madueke]… I wished them the best. Spain vs England. I think they will join us in America.”

Contact with Colwill and Madueke Ahead of U21 Euros Final

Levi Colwill’s loan spell at Brighton last season caught the attention of several Premier League clubs. Brighton, Liverpool, and Manchester City are all in the mix. However, Chelsea rejected Brighton’s £30 million bid, indicating their desire to retain the promising young center-back. Colwill is yet to sign a new contract as he evaluates his role under Pochettino.

During England’s celebration after their U21 Euro final victory, Noni Madueke shared an optimistic message for Chelsea supporters. In an Instagram live session, Madueke assured fans that Colwill would be returning to the club. This statement further solidifies the belief that Colwill’s future lies at Stamford Bridge.

Promising Change from the Past

Pochettino’s proactive engagement with young players signals a departure from previous managers’ approaches, such as Maurizio Sarri’s admission of not watching the U20 World Cup players.

However, defensive changes are imminent in the Chelsea lineup. Colwill is sure to find opportunities to establish himself under Pochettino’s management. Departures of Kalidou Koulibaly and Cesar Azpilicueta, along with Trevoh Chalobah’s uncertain future, create space for Colwill to make his mark.

With Pochettino at the helm and the likes of Colwill and Madueke showcasing their talent, Chelsea can look forward to a bright future. Furthermore, the integration of promising young players lays the foundation for sustained success and fosters a dynamic and competitive squad.
