Moreover, the team is based on remarkable performances throughout the weekend. For some teams this game week was one to rejoice while for some it was a rather disappointing one.

An expected result came from Liverpool, while the table toppers Chelsea were struck a little unlucky. While Manchester United got a confidence boost, Southampton were just lucky to not have another 9-0 score line. While the snow put in a beautiful element in Manchester City‘s victory, Tottenham Hotspur on the other hand, had their game postponed due to it.

Regardless, the table is pretty much unchanged as Chelsea lead the way followed by Manchester City, Liverpool and West Ham United, in order.

Team of the Week

Defence

Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker (Liverpool)

In for goalkeeping, we have Alisson Becker from Liverpool. While there were many contesting for this position, the Brazilian simply edges it out. The GK made 3 crucial saves to keep the team’s clean sheet. He had 53 touches on the ball and won all aerial and ground duels.

Right-back: Takehiro Tomiyasu (Arsenal)

Arsenal dominated the whole game against Newcastle United and their full backs were at their absolute best. Tomiyasu provided a beautiful assist to Gabriel Martinelli for the team’s second goal. On the defensive aspect, the South Korean won 7 out of 10 duels. Clean sheet locked.

Centre-back: Thiago Silva (Chelsea)

Chelsea were unable to secure a win against Manchester United. However, the Brazilian played a leading game without putting a foot wrong. With 4 out of 4 ground duels won, 3 clearances, 1 interception, 2 tackles and 1 block, he commanded the backline well. He also won the team’s penalty.

Center-back: Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Van Dijk is our top defender choice for the week. The Dutchman won all his duels in a comfortable win over Southampton. The defender made 6 clearances and made a crucial interception to keep the clean sheet. He also scored his first goal of the season for the Reds.

Left-back: Andrew Robertson (Liverpool)

The left back was on fire against the Saints. With 84 touches, he created 2 big chances and delivered 4 key passes. The Scottish also assisted Diogo Jota for the opener. Clean sheet locked.

Midfield

Right midfield: Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

Saka was on top form against the Magpies. The Englishman scored a goal assisted by Nuno Tavares. He successfully completed 2 out of 3 dribbles attempts. With 2 shots on target, he made 2 key pass and created 1 big chance. Struck by unfortunate injury.

Center midfield: John McGinn (Aston Villa)

McGinn was Aston Villa‘s best performer over the weekend. The Scottish scored the winning goal for the team and successfully delivered all crosses. He made 3 out of 3 dribbles and defensively made 7 tackles in total.

Center midfield: Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City)

A silent but deadly Gundogan struck again on a snowy day. The German scored a simple tap in and provided a cheeky touch to assist Fernandinho. He also delivered 4 key passes and had 3 shots with 2 of them on target.

Left midfield: James Maddison (Leicester)

A form finding struggle for Maddison perhaps ended against Watford as the player scored Leicester‘s opener and provided 2 assists for Jamie Vardy. The Englishman successfully completed all his dribbles and delivered 5 key passes with 1 big chance creation.

Attack

Centre Forward: Diogo Jota (Liverpool)

Jota scored the opener of the game against the Saints. He later scored another with an assist from Mohamed Salah. Along with a brace, the Portuguese had 2 shots on target and completed all his dribbles. The player even helped out defensively by winning 7 out of 9 ground duels.

Centre Forward: Jamie Vardy (Leicester)

After blanking in 4 league games, Vardy returned with a bang. The Englishman did not fail to impress with 2 cheeky yet stunning goals. He also had 4 shots on target.
