The Premier League was back in action at the weekend and we have come up with the team of the week for game-week 16. To effectively convey the team’s quality across the pitch, we’ll use a 3-4-3 formation. All of the players selected will be among the finest in their respective positions.

Moreover, the team will be based on the best individual performances from all the teams that played. Steven Gerrard’s return to Anfield, a rampant Leicester City, and again a disappointing Everton side were all a part of this game week.

Manchester City are leading the Premier League table above Liverpool. Moreover, Chelsea are also just one point behind the Reds. The Hammers are still on 4th and just one point above Manchester United. Furthermore, Arsenal are also one point behind United followed by Tottenham Hotspur. However, Spurs have 2 more games in hand than Arsenal and are just 1 point behind the Gunners.

Here we have with us…

Team of the week: Defense

Goalkeeper – David de Gea (Manchester United)

David de Gea has once again done his job of saving Manchester United. He made some world-class saves from point-blank range to give United the clean sheet. The Spaniard has returned to top form this season and is arguably United’s best player this season.

Center-Back – Gabriel (Arsenal)

Gabriel did all a defender should do in a game. He was lively throughout the game and got a clean sheet to show for it. Moreover, he also scored a goal with a great corner from Gabriel Martinelli. He looks to have cemented his place in the lineup under Arteta.

Center-Back – Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Virgil van Dijk is called the best defender in the league and also in the world by some. He showed why he is the best by doing all the basics right and making no mistakes. Moreover, he also contributes to the attack while providing defensive solidity. As a result, Aston Villa were not able to register a single shot on target.

Center-Back – Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea)

Rudiger has improved Chelsea a lot and he remains to be one of the key players under Tuchel. Leeds were troubling Chelsea and Rudiger also had to help in the attacking department. The German international won 2 penalties for his side to win the game 3-2.

Team of the week: Midfield

Right Midfielder – Conor Gallagher (Crystal Palace)

Conor Gallagher scored two important goals for Crystal Palace in their 3-1 win against Everton. Since Crystal Palace had lost 3 consecutive matches and they had to win this match. Therefore, Palace stepped up to their challenge and beat an out-of-form Everton.

Center Midfielder – Jorginho (Chelsea)

The Italian midfielder was heavily criticized for his howlers on the pitch. However, his penalty scoring abilities have got out Chelsea against Leeds. He scored two goals from the spot one of which was scored in the 94th minute to give Chelsea the win.

Center Midfielder – Youri Tielemans (Leicester City)

The Belgian international must have enjoyed the evening as he scored two goals. He sat and controlled the game and made it easier for his teammates to find spaces. Leicester needed this win after their disappointing loss against Aston Villa.

Left Midfielder – James Maddison (Leicester City)

It was the midfield duo of Tielemans and Maddison that destroyed Newcastle. He is now involved in the most number of goal contributions at Leicester along with Vardy and Daka. Moreover, Maddison influenced the entire game and created chances from all parts of the pitch.

Team of the week: Attack

Right-Winger – Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Mohamed Salah cannot be dropped from the Liverpool team and also from the team of the week. Although Liverpool scored only one goal but they played the whole game trying to score goals and dominate their opponents. Salah played a huge role against Aston Villa as he scored the only goal of the game with a penalty.

Center-Forward – Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Sterling is now finding form at City again and he has done it here with a goal. Like Liverpool, City also had to find their way through a penalty and Raheem Sterling was the one who took it. He was also lively throughout the game and was very calm in scoring from the spot.

Left-Winger – Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)

Brentford got a penalty in the dying minutes of the game against Watford. Moreover, the score was tied at 1-1 and if the penalty was scored then Brentford were the winners. Mbeumo stepped up to take the win for his team in the 95th minute against Watford however Brentford should have finished the game beforehand.

This gameweek had great goals, some drama and spectacular saves. All of this made it a bit difficult to get the team of the week for gameweek 16. However, the match between Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak in the Spurs camp.

Moreover, there is also a covid outbreak reported a Manchester United which can again postpone their match against Brentford. This has to be minimized to avoid pressing the pause button for the season. As a result, fans are also strictly instructed to follow the guidelines given in stadiums for the best possible outcome.
