Rahul Dravid, after becoming the coach of the National Men’s team, has revived an old tradition. The tradition was that every player, who makes a debut, will receive his cap from a former Indian cricketer. This step will motivate the players to give their best for the country and always thrive for excellence.

On Thursday, we saw that former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar gave the maiden Test cap to Shreyas Iyer. His excitement of receiving his maiden Test cap was visible.

We saw the same thing in the recently concluded T20 series against New Zealand as well. Harshal Patel, who made his international debut in the 2nd T20, received his maiden India cap from Ajit Agarkar

Rahul Dravid revives lost tradition

This tradition of giving the maiden cap to a player from a former player ended after MS Dhoni become the captain. After Dhoni become the captain in all three formats, it was seen that the earlier tradition was not followed.

During this period, the maiden cap was given to a player by either senior members of the team or by the coach himself. After that when Virat Kholi become the captain, he also continued to follow MS Dhoni. So it looked like such an old tradition has been abolished.

However, after being appointed as the Head Coach, Rahul Dravid has brought the old custom back into the team. A tradition that was not used after Dravid himself left as the captain of the National men’s team.

Earlier in the day, India put up 345 for 10 and New Zealand have scored 129 runs without losing any wickets in day 2 of the first test. This makes it clear that the Kiwis are at the top now and have been dominant so far.
