As per recent reports, Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has identified a four-man transfer shortlist. The German aims to solve the midfield problems at the club with his new signings.

Rangnick took charge as the Red Devils’ boss, succeeding former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The 63-years-old manager has had a flying start to his managerial takeover with 2 wins and a draw in his 3 games as in charge.

Rangnick will be the coach for the first team until the end of the 2021-22 campaign but will then take on a consultancy role, which will involve bringing new players to the club.

Rangnick’s potential transfer shortlist

In his short time at the club, the German coach has been able to pinpoint midfield as an area of weakness. With Donny van de Beek pushing for an exit from the club and the other midfielders lacking consistency, the manager has put forward four potential transfer targets:

Kalvin Phillips: The Leeds midfielder is currently one of the best CDMs in the Premier League. Even though the club struggles with their defense, Phillips has not failed to impress and has proved his worth as a top player. His defensive input and great intercepting quality have been vital in Leeds’ success under manager Marcelo Bielsa. With his ability to play long balls, the Englishman also contributes to the team’s attack from time to time. He was also considered to be one of the best players in Englands’ Euro 2020 campaign. However, the Peacocks will be reluctant to offload the player, who is also targeted by Liverpool.

Jude Bellingham: A young prodigy, Bellingham has proved his quality to play in the English top-flight. His excellent displays at Borussia Dortmund have attracted a lot of attention as he is being chased by many big clubs. The 18-years-old has the potential to play both as an attacking and a defensive midfielder. His impulse to dribble and carry the ball forward is always explosive and dangerous for the opposition. He could also link up efficiently with his former Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho at Manchester.

Amadou Haidara: The RB Leipzig midfielder is also in contention for a move to Old Trafford. Haidara has a £33m release clause in his current deal and is likely to be the most attainable target during the January transfer window. His defensive abilities as a CDM could be crucial in sorting out Utd’s defensive setbacks.

Can the Red Devils be hopeful for Erling Braut Haaland?

Even though he is a striker, the Norwegian is the biggest transfer target for all major clubs. The 21-years old player is expected to leave Dortmund by next summer while carrying a huge price tag behind him. However, his agent Mino Raiola has made it clear that the Red Devils are not in the race for Haaland’s signature.
