Reading vs Fulham: Match preview, team news and predicted line-ups

Reading are set to play their Championship game against Fulham which was postponed last month due to a Covid outbreak in the home side. The officials have confirmed, the game will take place on Tuesday at the Madejski Stadium.

The two teams are having contrasting seasons. The two teams are competing on two different ends of the table.

Despite their differing fortunes, The Royals have beaten the Cottagers in their last two meetings. The most recent was in September of last year when Reading came out with a 1-2 triumph over Fulham.

Reading currently occupy the 21st spot in the league with 22 points in 23 games. This has been a difficult season for the Royals fans. They recently witnessed their team lose 2-1 to sixth tier side Kidderminster Harriers FC in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

The away side Fulham will be looking to get back into the automatic promotion spot with a win against Reading. Fulham have been quite poor in the league recently. They have failed to win any of their last five games.

The Cottagers are still within reach of the top spot thanks to the inconsistent teams around them. They currently sit 3rd on the table with 45 points. 1 point behind 2nd place Blackburn Rovers and 4 behind table-toppers Bournemouth, having two games in hand over both the teams.

A win in this game will result in Marco Silva’s side heading back into the top 2. Their recent win against Championship side Bristol City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup will give them some motivation for their trip to the Madejski Stadium.

Reading vs Fulham: Team news

Reading

Alen Halilovic, Felipe Araruna, Michael Morrison, Tom McIntyre are all set to miss out on this fixture for Reading due to injuries. Andy Yiadom and Baba Rahman will be away on National duties as they represent Ghana in the AFCON.

Manager Veljko Paunović will most likely stick to a back four. Keeper Southwood will come back into the side after being rested for the FA Cup fixture.

Possible Reading starting line-up:

Luke Southwood; Dejan Tetek, Tom Holmes, Scott Dann, Ethan Bristow; Danny Drinkwater, Josh Laurent, Mamadi Camara, John Swift, Junior Hoilett; Andy Carroll

Fulham

Ivan Cavaleiro and Netherland international Terence Kongolo are doubtful for the Cottagers and may miss out due to injuries. Ivory Coast international Jean Michael Seri will be travelling to represent his national side at the AFCON.

Marco Silva has a relatively healthy squad with only a couple of doubts. He will field a 4-2-3-1 with Mitrovic leading the side.

Possible Fulham starting line-u:

Marek Rodak; Kenny Tete, Tosin Adarabioyo, Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson; Harrison Reed, Tom Cairney; Harry Wilson, Fabio Carvalho, Neeskens Kebano; Aleksandar Mitrovic

Our Prediction

Reading 1-2 Fulham

This will be a low scoring game with both teams going for the win. The home side may find it difficult to cope with the Cottagers due to their absentees. Fulham have a lot of quality going forward with the likes of Mitrovic being in top form. As a result, we think the away side will come away with all three points.

Fulham will be raring to get back to winning ways. It would be a great result for Reading if they manage to get anything out of this game.
