Recent reports suggest that Real Madrid are losing hope in signing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland. The Spanish club believes that the player is likely to make a move to the Premier League.

Since joining Dortmund, Haaland has been the world’s best striker. The player rules the Bundesliga alongside Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski. He is BVB’s talisman and an absolute goal machine. The DFB Pokal winner with Dortmund, Haaland is often called the world’s best young player.

His attacking prowess and worldly displays have made him a big transfer target for the footballing giants, especially Real Madrid. However, Premier League clubs Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea, are leading the race to sign the player, leaving Madrid in despair.

Haaland’s rise to glory

Coming from Norway, the player made a move to the Bundesliga in 2019. The 21-years-old striker joined Red Bull Salzburg and in half a season, he became a huge sensation. In 27 appearances for Salzburg, he recorded a huge tally of 29 goals and 7 assists, in all completions. This performance was enough to attract big clubs to hurriedly offer the player huge contracts. However, the Norwegian chose to join Dortmund, believing it would be a better club to boost his career. (stats via TRANSFERMARKT)

In 1.5 half seasons at Dortmund, the player has become a celebrity. In the 2020/21 season, Haaland registered 41 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. The player’s tall and strong physique has made him a force to reckon with, while the defenders fail to take him down with tackles and are often left in the dust. The Norway international’s speed is a deadly weapon he uses, to beat defenders one on one and during counter-attacks. His energy and work rate are through the roof in each game as he is always the team’s most hardworking player. (stats via TRANSFERMARKT)

Madrid could lose Haaland to English giants

Being the best and most promising investment in football, many clubs are hoping and ready to sign the young striker. While Real Madrid are one of the top teams to be linked with Haaland consistently. The player was considered to be in plans involving Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema as the team’s attacking side, along with Vinicius Jr.

However, Los Blancos now believe that they will fail to achieve their plans. The club will hopefully sign Kylian Mbappe in 2022 as a free agent but due to financial reasons, they will not be able to spend big to get Haaland to the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to journalist Josep Pedrerol, Los Blancos feel that they will ultimately lose out to a team from the Premier League in their race to sign the Norway international. Writing on Twitter, Pedrerol said:

“Real Madrid assumes that Haaland will play in England next year and they have it ruled out.”

Meanwhile, the aforementioned Premier League clubs are ready to spend big to trigger Haaland’s release clause and sign him in the January transfer window.
