Reports suggest that England international Reece James has stepped up his recovery from the hamstring injury he picked up last month. Centre-half Trevoh Chalobah is also expected to be back in training and is expected to feature against Tottenham on Sunday.

Reece James was taken off injured during a 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League last month. The initial scans showed a suspected tear.

The full-back has been in excellent form this season. He has made a total of 23 appearances for the European champions in all competitions this season. He has registered an impressive five goals and six assists this season from the right wing-back position. (stats via Transfermarkt)

Reports coming out of Stamford Bridge suggested that right-back Reece James could be out of action for up to six to eight weeks. James was not required to undergo surgery for the hamstring issue. If James required surgery for the hamstring issue then he would have likely been out for the rest of the season.

Return date for Reece James?

Initial reports suggested that James would miss up to six to eight weeks of action, before rejoining the team. But the England international has been making good ground to return to full fitness from his injury.

He has undertaken some light jogging on the training pitches at Cobham this week. But he is still not close to joining the full training season with the first team. The defender looks set to be out for another two weeks.

The Chelsea faithful will be hoping to see James on the pitch as soon as possible. The blue’s form has dipped quite a bit since the full-back duo of James and Chilwell got injured. Everyone at the club will be hoping that James can find his best form again and end the season on a high.

Chelsea’s relentless run of games

The European champions have played 15 games since the start of December. The dip of form and injury issues can be considered as an impact of the relentless schedule. Thomas Tuchel talking about the schedule after the 1-1 draw with Brighton, he said:

“We are mentally tired and physically tired. You can see it in our performance. It’s as easy as that,”
“Look at our last week and you will know what we are talking about. We had three away games in seven days, and it’s not only about playing, it’s also about travelling and not sleeping.

This can happen and if you tell me that this never happened before to any Chelsea team or team in the Premier League, I can only laugh because it’s happened.
