Riyad Mahrez Linked with Saudi Arabian Move as Guardiola Eyes Another Transfer Masterstroke

Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola is set to display his transfer expertise as Riyad Mahrez becomes a target for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli. Fabrizio Romano reports that the Algerian winger has received a substantial offer from the Saudi Pro League side. Mahrez has two years left on his contract with Manchester City, and the club is likely to ask for a significant fee if he is to leave.

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti confirmed the approach from Al-Ahli, revealing that Mahrez recently rejected a significant offer from the club. However, just before the Champions League final, they presented a new and improved bid. Galetti expects the player’s decision regarding his future to be announced soon.

The Transfer Genius: Pep Guardiola

Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, have shown their pedigree in the transfer market, setting them apart from rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. The club is unafraid to make tough decisions, parting ways with beloved players when the timing is right. The 33 year old Mahrez could be the next to leave as City constantly strives for improvement and makes changes to their team.

An example of Guardiola’s transfer masterstrokes is the sale of Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal. Last summer, City sold the Brazilian striker to their Premier League rivals for £45 million, having signed him for £27 million in 2017. The move raised eyebrows initially, but City swiftly replaced him by acquiring Julian Alvarez for a mere £14 million. Alvarez has showcased immense potential, benefiting from playing alongside world-class striker Erling Haaland.

Mahrez’s Potential Departure

Despite Mahrez’s importance and potential, his departure could benefit Guardiola and Manchester City as a smart business decision. Selling him would generate funds that Manchester City could use to strengthen the squad in the upcoming transfer window.

However, the winger himself has downplayed these reports. While on international duty with Algeria, Mahrez expressed his loyalty to Manchester City. He mentioned that he has two years remaining on his contract and placed emphasis on his current focus on upcoming fixtures.
