Recently, in a pre-match press conference, India skipper, Rohit Sharma became disturbed by a journalist’s question.
As India and Australia prepare for the World Test Championship final, Rohit didn’t like being reminded of India’s empty ICC trophy case.
Since 2013, India hasn’t been able to lay their hands on any ICC trophy and will be eager to start their campaign by winning the Test mace.
If India wins the mace, then it will be after 10 years that India will finally end their ICC trophy drought.
This was the question that got Rohit quite angry and he replied sternly to the journalist as well.
Says Rohit,
We are aware of what the team has won and what they haven’t won. It is not useful to just think about it again and again.
He further said that this same question was posed to him during last year’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
Rohit also stated that the team management and players are fully focused on the WTC final right now.
Rohit Sharma-led India will look to win the Test mace
However, since the 2013 triumph in the Champions Trophy, India has had considerable success in all ICC tournaments thereafter.
They only failed to reach the semis in the T20 World Cup in 2021. Furthermore, they also encountered problems during the semifinals and finals which cost them the trophy.
Thus, it will be quite a challenge for the Rohit Sharma-led side to win their first ICC trophy of the year after getting beaten by New Zealand in the first edition of the WTC.
On the bright side, India has continued their dominance over Australia since 2017 and has beaten them comprehensively.
But, this time they do not have the services of Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah which can cost them dearly.
Therefore, India will have to play really well if they want to win the WTC final against Australia.
