Rohit Sharma silences all critics with his century in the Nagpur test

Rohit

India’s skipper Rohit Sharma smashed a tremendous century in the series opener of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur on Friday against Australia‘s Pat Cummins.

On the second day of the first Test against Australia, the veteran Indian captain accomplished a remarkable feat.

Astonished by Rohit’s batting masterclass, Ravi Shastri lauded the senior batter whose name has been etched in the history books.

Rohit Sharma, who was only playing his fourth Test match as the team’s captain, scored a century before all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel took Team India to 321/7 in Nagpur on Day 2. On a turning Nagpur pitch, Shastri cited Rohit and Jadeja as keys to India’s dominance.

I think that the partnership between Jadeja and Rohit came at the right time for India. I think they both realised the importance of that partnership. And you could see Rohit, even after getting to his hundred, it was as if he was taking fresh guard, and starting all over again. And Jadeja has improved over the years, he believes in himself and he is a useful contributor lower down the order whenever he is needed,”

Shastri told.

Rohit Sharma created history…

As a result of Rohit’s ninth century in Test cricket, he achieved a historic feat in international cricket.

The Indian skipper has become the first player to notch centuries in all three formats of the game.

Rohit Sharma has joined Babar Azam, Faf du Plessis, and Tillakaratne Dilshan on the list of captains to register centuries across all formats.

Shastri further Said

It’s a tribute to his footwork, his temperament and skill. He has played with his wrists, played late and he is never coming hard at the ball. He has played with soft hands. A great example of how to bat on this pitch. Because of the time he has, he can play both spin and pace with good effect. And when he wants to hit, he can go big.”

Hitman: the opener…

As the Indian team’s leader, Rohit Sharma has scored six centuries. Over the course of his career, the 35-year-old has smashed three centuries in ODI and two in T20I.

In all formats, he has scored 38 centuries as an opener for India.
