Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel claimed that Romelu Lukaku is a fantastic player when he was asked whether they are signing the Inter Milan center forward or not.
Having been frustrated in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmunds Erling Braut Haaland, the Blues are planning to shift their focus towards the Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku in order to sign the center forward.
When asked about Romelu Lukaku before Wednesday’s pre-season friendly with Tottenham Hotspurs, Tuchel appreciated ex Chelsea’s center forward.
However, the Blues manager denies the suggestions that his side is interested in signing a deal with the Belgium forward which could be worth in excess of £100m to the Italian champions.
“I won’t talk about players who are not in my squad. Romelu Lukaku is a fantastic player, he is not in my squad, he is in Inter. Everyone wants to join my squad. I can imagine a lot of players who want to come and join,” said journalist Nizaar Kinsella from Goal, who quotes Thomas Tuchel.
Will Chelsea be able to bring back Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan?
The 28-year-old has featured in 95 occasions for Inter Milan. He has scored 64 goals for the Italian champions in the last term. He moved to Serie A after transferring from Manchester United in August 2019.
During his previous span at Chelsea, from 2011 to 2014, Romelu Lukaku failed to find the back of the net in his 15 appearances for the club. Later on, he went to Everton on a loan deal where he performed very well.
Romelu Lukaku playes from his left foot. The Belgium international is a large and physically powerful striker. He uses his physicality to surpass defenders. He is also capable of playing on the wings. A well-rounded forward, who is also strong in the air, beyond his physical qualities and goal scoring ability. He also possesses pace, athleticism, awareness, good link-up play, technical attributes, and vision. Lukaku has an ability to get into good attacking positions with his intelligent runs off the ball.
