South African Cricket Board has introduced a new domestic t20 league named – “SA20“. This year it will be the inaugural season of this league. It is scheduled between January – February 2023.The South African Cricket Board has finally named it in the month of August , 2022.
Importance of new t20 domestic cricket league – SA20 in South Africa .
Since few months. There were disturbances in cricket board of South Africa and also there was certain dissatisfaction among players .The quality of cricket was also declining . In other words , cricket was losing its life . So it was necessary to ensure quality of cricket . There was also a need to check upon the facts that it there is no loss of interest for this sports . SA20 league will ensure development of cricket at grassroot level too . It will be an opportunity for them to grow and develop in better manner .
Graeme Smith , great former South African Captain said , “Today is another significant day as we officially unveil the SA20. We selected a name for its simplicity and something that can be uniquely ours as we enter this new and exciting phase of cricket in South Africa. Dropping the T in T20 cricket shows our intention to be different. We want to change the game for our players and for our fans, and most importantly, create a League that all South Africans can be a part of .”
Details of League
It will be a double round robin tournament which will lead to playoffs .The teams are Duban Super Giant. Joburg Super Kings MI Cape Towns Paarl Royals Pretoria Capitals Sunrises East Cape
Graeme Smith , former South African Captain is the league commissioner . All teams were bought by owners from Indian Premier League . Auction is scheduled to be on September 19. The cricket board is sorting out list of players after which they will make pools accordingly . Some English players like Eoin Morgan , Moeen Ali , Liam Livingstone , Jason Roy , Jos Butler have already been signed .Teams like West Indies and Sri Lanka have shown their keen interest to participate in this league .
