The Indian Men’s team management has been trying a lot of permutations and combinations in the top order. With the T-20 World Cup knocking at the door, the captain-coach duo is desperately in search of the right boy for the right spot. In the recent past, at least three different men walked in three different matches, to open with captain Rohit Sharma. Former Indian Batter Sanjay Manjrekar is confused too in other words considering the pool of talents presently India is having.
Apart from Ishan Kishan, there’s been Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant too. Suryakumar Yadav struggled initially but proved himself since the third T-20I in the 4 match series against West Indies. There he scored a blistering 76 of just 44 balls. However, Shreyas Iyer did get a chance to role his bat in the top, in the last T-20I, led by Hardik Pandya. Iyer did make a mark too scoring a 50, and being the top individual scorer that day. Thus one can easily say, that it’s going to be a tough task for the coach Rahul Dravid and Captain Rohit Sharma to shuffle his boys accordingly. Likewise, Manjrekar while giving a view on it, told that he absolutely” stumped” figuring out the right top three.
KL Rahul to rightly Complement Team India’s newly adopted aggressive style in T-20I: Manjrekar
Former Indian Captain and star player Virat Kohli is set to return to competitive cricket on the eve of the T-20 World Cup. Likewise, Lokesh Rahul has recovered from his injuries and will into the Asia Cup 2022 with the prestigious designation of Vice Captain. According to Manjrekar, the return of these two will create more lines on the foreheads of the coach-captain duo.
However, Manjrekar thinks, KL Rahul should definitely be included in the squad. KL Rahul will rightly support the recently adopted aggressive approach of the Indian Team, with his bat.
On the Sports 18 show ‘Sports Over the Top’, Manjrekar said,
“Not answering that. It’s a tough one, really tough, because there are some serious contenders there. That’s why these matches before the T20 World Cup are so important.”
Manjrekar further elaborated,
“KL Rahul has to be part of the T20 team. So has to be Virat Kohli just because of the stage and the pressure that comes in. It’s going to be a tough one. We have seen Suryakumar Yadav bat in the top three, we have seen Rishabh Pant bat in the top three. These are all very exciting options, so let’s see how it goes.”
The Indian keeper-batter Rishabh Pant too got few chances to open with Sharma. But the leftie failed to make a prominent mark there. He just managed 27 runs in two games against England. However, Manjrekar is in all praise of Pant.
“I love that idea of Rishabh Pant opening with Rohit Sharma. So that is something I am excited about, the possibility is there. It’s such a difficult one. You have got Virat Kohli, you have got KL Rahul, you have got Suryakumar Yadav and I think these are the three serious contenders. I am stumped.”
