Scott Mctominay could be left warming up the bench as Manchester United prepare for the FA Cup final!

Scott Mctominay played rather poorly when Manchester United faced Brighton in their last league game of the season. The Red Devils may consider benching Mctominay in the FA Cup final after his disastrous performance.

United will be facing Manchester City in a Manchester derby for the second consecutive season in an FA Cup final. The Red Devils faced a tough loss against their bitter rivals in the previous season and will be looking to take revenge.

Sun sets on United’s worst ever season!

Manchester United have finally finished their campaign. The Red Devils have secured 8th spot in the Premier League with 60 points, their worst ever finish. However, injuries plagued The Red Devils throughout the season with 65 different cases of injuries/illness reported!

United have also drawn a curtain on this season with a goal difference of -1! Additionally, The Red Devils may even fail to qualify for Europe altogether if they are unable to beat City in the FA Cup final. Especially, since United missed out on automatic qualification after finishing outside the top 7.

The fans have had a frustrating campaign witnessing their team hitting new lows this season. Moreover, big name signings like Antony haven’t delivered while problems in the dressing room have been evident. Consider the case of Jadon Sancho who is now on loan to Borussia Dortmund. The winger is on his way to play in the Champion’s League final while his parent club struggles to qualify for Europe!

Will McTominay be snubbed by Manchester United?

The Scottish international has scored 8 times this season for The Red Devils, in important times too. However, McTominay’s form towards the end of the season has rather dwindled and he might be warming up the bench against City.

McTominay’s unimpressive performance against Brighton hasn’t gone unnoticed either. The 27-year old was handed a 5/10 rating. The Scot missed a sitter in front of goal in the first half. He even had fewer touches than United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana which is pretty bad for a midfielder.

Although having an 88% pass accuracy, McTominay had no shots on target, no key passes, no crosses delivered and no successful dribbles! His defensive contributions were also next to none with no interceptions and only 1 tackle.

No doubt Scott McTominay is a talented player and has come in clutch for Manchester United. But, his recent run of form will surely put Erik Ten Hag in doubt over his starting position. It is highly likely that The Red Devils may not start McTominay against City. Especially, when it is such a crucial game and the midfielder is out of form.

McTominay will have to improve his game given the INEOS takeover and the changes that would be implemented in the squad. If the Scot really wants to make a name for himself in the starting XI, he has a lot of work to do and work upon his consistency. Otherwise, the 27-year old may just be warming up the bench. Additionally, Ten Hag and United may simply use McTominay to rotate the midfield if the case doesn’t change.

One last twist in the tale of Manchester United?

While United had the worst season of their history, The Red Devils can still end the campaign on a positive note. If United somehow manage to beat City, they won’t just lift the silverware, but will also qualify for the Europa League next season.

Needless to say, the accomplishment of beating their local rivals will double United’s joy! Especially since Manchester City have broken United’s record by winning 4 Premier League titles in a row. Also, a win for United will hand them their much wanted revenge on the same occasion against City.
