The BCCI has announced the ODI squad for the upcoming tour of India for the West Indies.

Shikhar Dhawan has been named the captain of the side while Ravindra Jadeja will become Dhawan’s deputy.

In the squad, many of the big names are missing and younger players have taken their places.

Some of those names are Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami and KL Rahul.

Dhawan has been India’s captain when last year he led the team to a complete whitewash of Sri Lanka.

Rahul Dravid was head coach while Ravi Shastri was coaching the Test team in England.

This time, Ruturaj Gaikwad will have a new opening partner in Shubman Gill as the selectors want to give the latter more game time.

Shubman last played an ODI series in 2020 against Australia.

Sanju Samson has been selected in place of Rishabh Pant as the second wicketkeeper after Ishan Kishan.

Arshdeep Singh has made the cut for the West Indies series but Umran Malik was overlooked.

Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel and Deepak Hooda are the spin options for India.

India’s tour of the West Indies will commence on July 22 after they finish their white-ball series against England.

The tour will firstly have ODIs after which India will play 5 T20Is with the last two T20Is being played in the USA.
