Shikhar Dhawan to lead India in ODIs against South Africa: BCCI sources

India is underway with a busy schedule. Indian team ended their campaign in the Asia Cup on a high note. But unfortunately could not make it to the finals. The T20 world cup is around the corner and is going to be hosted by Australia. Before that India is going to host 2 nations on their home soil.

India will host 3 matches t20i series against the defending champions – Australia and then will host 3 t20 and 3 ODI against South Africa. Following that they will start their campaign for the T20 World Cup. BCCI sourced revealed Shikhar Dhawan will be adjourned as captain for 3 one day international matches against South Africa.

South Africa will play 3 t20 and 3 one-day international matches against India in India. The ODI series will kick start on 6th October. The venues for this series are Lucknow, Ranchi, and Delhi. BCCI also announced VVS Laxman as the head coach for this series instead of Rahul Dravid.

Many players will be rested for the one-day international series due to their participation in the upcoming t20 World Cup. Shikhar Dhawan is not in the mind of selectors when t20i is considered. But when 50 over format is considered, he is an important part of playing 11 as well as squad. Recently he lead team India against West Indies and won the series by a clean sweep.

Shikhar Dhawan is a left-handed batsman and has ample amount of experience in international matches. He has even captained India for 6 ODI and 3 t20s. Moreover, he has an overall winning percentage of 66.66%. He has played 158 ODI matches. Having a strike rate of 92.1 and an average of 45 in ODI, he has scored 17 centuries in total.
