Sourav Ganguly says India could have been in a better position

World test championship

Former BCCI President and India player, Sourav Ganguly has given his opinion for the ongoing WTC between Australia and India.

He has stated that if Pat Cummins had won the toss and had opted to bowl first, then India would have been in the driver’s seat at present.

However, it was not to be as India decided to bowl first and picked Shardul Thakur in place of Ravichandran Ashwin.

On Day 1, Australia was 73/2 at lunch after the dismissals of David Warner and Usman Khawaja.

After lunch, Shami dismissed Marnus Labuschagne but after that, it was pure carnage from Australia as Head and Smith battered the Indian bowlers.

Said Ganguly after Day 1,

Absolutely, if you see when Pat Cummins lost the toss, he also said that he would have bowled first. If Pat Cummins had won the toss, India might have been in this situation. It has not happened for the first time that a team scored 300 runs after losing two wickets in the first session.

Ganguly lavishes praise on Steve Smith and Travis Head

Meanwhile, Ganguly did not refrain from praising Steve Smith and Travis Head for playing some excellent cricket for Australia.

You have to give credit to Steve Smith and Travis Head. Both have played different types of knocks. Smith has played the way you play in swinging and seaming conditions in England. Head has played his own game, that you keep playing positively in all conditions.

Furthermore, Smith and Head were dismissed on scores of 121 and 163 runs respectively but it was enough for Australia to post a hefty total on the board.

Additionally, India is now trying to get as close to Australia’s 469 as possible. However, it will not be an easy one as half the side has been sent to the dugout.
