According to reports, French side Nice are considering a reunion with former player and now Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris.
The Tottenham Hotspur and France captain is out of contract next summer. According to Foot Mercato, Nice are considering offering Hugo Lloris a pre-contact in the new year 2022 for the goalkeeper to join the French club next summer when his contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium runs out.
Hugo Lloris came through the Nice youth academy, but joined fellow French club Lyon back in 2008 before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2012. The French World Cup winner has made 392 appearances for Spurs in all competitions since the move. In this time he has kept a total of 133 clean sheets for the North London club. Lloris has been on decent form this term too. He has made 19 appearances for Spurs this season and has kept seven clean sheets in all competitions. (stats via Transfermarkt)
Reports coming out of France also suggest that Nice are keen to offload their current number one Walter Benitez in the upcoming transfer windows to help free up space in the squad to sign Hugo Lloris in the summer. Reports also suggest that the Spurs captain is also open to a return to his native county and return to his former side.
Who could replace Hugo Lloris at Tottenham Hotspur?
Hugo Lloris is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world and replacing him as the Spurs number one will be a big ask for any goalkeeper in the world. But Spurs are scouting Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson. While Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur are also scouting and considering Everton and England number one Jordan Pickford and West Bromwich Albion’s Sam Johnstone.
Dean Henderson’s situation at Old Trafford is worth keeping an eye on. The England international only signed a new deal at the club last summer and replaced David de Gea as the first choice in the United goal last term. But David de Gea’s return to form this season has seen Henderson’s opportunities limited. According to reports, Henderson is considering his future at Old Trafford. He could very well leave on a loan move in the January transfer window.
While Spurs also signed Pierluigi Gollini on loan from Atalanta this summer. The Italian goalkeeper could very well turn out to be the perfect Hugo Lloris replacement if he gains the manager’s trust. Spurs also have the option to make the loan deal permanent next summer for a reported fee of around £12.9m.
