Spurs’ player ratings in their stunning win against Leeds

tennis player

Here are our player ratings from Spurs’ four-goal win against the struggling Leeds United in the Premier League. The away side saw four different players score four goals to seal the win. They started the game brilliantly, scoring three goals inside the first 30 minutes. A late goal in the second half completed their blockbuster performance. Matt Doherty, Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, and Son Heung-Min all found themselves on the scoring sheet for Spurs.

Doherty opened the scoring ten minutes into the game as he met Sessegnon’s low cross at the far post and side-footed the ball past Meslier. Kulusevski then scored a superb solo goal as he wrestled his way into the Leeds box down the right-hand side. His left-footed shot at the near post had too much pace on it for Meslier. Spurs breached the Leeds defence yet again in the 27th minute. Hojbjerg’s delightful overhead pass found Kane who volleyed the ball into the far bottom corner with his left foot.

Spurs took a three-goal lead into half-time. Leeds did a much better job of suppressing the Spurs attack in the second half. But the away side found their fourth goal late in the second half. Harry Kane pinged a ball over the Leeds backline to put Son through on goal. The Korean made no mistake as he finished calmly to put the game to bed.

Current Premier League Standings

Leeds had their share of goal-scoring opportunities but failed to capitalize on them. They hit the post twice in the game, through Koch’s low shot in the first half and Raphinha’s second-half free-kick.

Spurs’ player ratings vs Leeds United

Goalkeeper

Hugo Lloris: 5/10

A spectator for most of the game. Lucky not to concede from a horrible error in the second half. Made a couple of regulation saves.

Defender

Christian Romero: 7/10

A little shaky in the beginning, but grew into the game. He was strong at the back and made some big tackles. A decent outing for the Argentine.

Eric Dier: 7/10

Solid performance at the heart of the defence. Made a big block in the second half and looked comfortable with the ball in his feet.

Ben Davies: 7/10

Bailed out Lloris with an important intervention to save the clean sheet. Did well to keep Raphinha at bay and got booked after an error.

Midfield

Matt Doherty: 8/10

Got his first goal for the club and will technically get the assist for the second goal. Got into the box on multiple occasions to provide an extra option in the box.

Harry Winks: 7.5/10

Showed great energy throughout the game. Did well to beat the press and move the ball to his forwards. Played a big role in the opener.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg: 7.5/10

Battled in the middle of the pitch as he so often does. Again effective against the press and provided a delightful assist for Kane’s goal.

Ryan Sessegnon: 7.5/10

A constant threat down the left-hand side. Put in some threatening crosses and got his assist for the first goal.

Forward

Dejan Kulusevski: 8/10

Scored a superb solo goal to double the lead and looked the most dangerous of all the attackers. Almost got a second goal.

Heung-Min Son: 8/10

So good with the ball at his feet. Almost scored a wonder goal after gliding past the Leeds defence but failed to finish it off. Got his reward late in the game as he scored the fourth goal for his side.

Harry Kane: 8/10

Another all-round performance by the striker. Drifted deep at times to support the play. Took his goal very well and set up the fourth goal with a sublime overhead pass to Son.

Substitutes

Emerson Royal: 6/10

Came on in the 78th minute for Ryan Sessegnon. Got into some good positions but squandered the chance to score as Kane put him through on goal.

Steven Bergwijn: 6/10

Came on for Kulusevski as the outcome of the game was decided. Looked eager to make an impact.

Dane Scarlett: Na

Came on too late to make any notable contribution.
