Sri Lanka wants to host Asia Cup amid discussions

Sri Lanka

Amid hot discussions on the Asia Cup, Sri Lanka Cricket has stepped in and offered to play host.

Earlier, the right to host was won by Pakistan. However, BCCI has strictly rejected the idea of traveling to the neighboring country to play because of political tensions.

However, Sri Lanka Cricket wants to host the tournament if the Asian Cricket Council grants them permission.

Moreover, the ACC meeting is just a few days away and this is a rather big claim from one of the boards.

On the other hand, a top SLC official has stated that the board is fully prepared to host the tournament if given a chance.

The SLC is prepared to the host the Asia Cup at a short notice. The decision now is up to the ACC. Colombo or nothing. We will go with the BCCI.

Pakistan’s Asia Cup hybrid model out of the window

Meanwhile, many of the cricket boards have rejected the hybrid model of Pakistan of having matches in Pakistan and the UAE.

With no acceptance being given to the model, PCB is slightly isolated from the other members at the moment.

All the board presidents are in India, having discussions about whom to give the hosting rights. Even the Emirates Cricket Board and the Cricket Association of Nepal are attending the final.

All the BCCI officials and the other presidents will be having discussions after the IPL.

But, as of now, PCB’s position is pretty unclear regarding Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.

Najam Sethi has now stated that if Pakistan is not allowed to host the Asia Cup, then they will not play in the tournament.

Also, it is not clear whether Pakistan will participate in the ODI World Cup or not.
