Star allrounder of Chennai Super Kings ruled out for nine months

Indian Premier League

IPL 2023 is scheduled to begin on 31st March in Ahmadabad. The first match is between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. This year’s IPL is to have 74 matches for the 10 teams. There is still a month before the start of IPL 2023 but the Chennai Super Kings’ allrounder Kyle Jamieson got ruled out of the tournament.

The New Zealand allrounder lastly played against England in a test match in Nottingham. Jamieson has to undergo surgery in his back which will rule him out of cricket for 9 months. He will also not take part in the ongoing test series against England in New Zealand. The Kiwis lost their first match against England by 267 runs.

Chennai Super Kings’ loss

Chennai Super Kings bought the allrounder for 1 crore in the IPL Auction. His tall height will help them to extract bounce in the slow pitches of Chepauk. Unfortunately, he is ruled out of the tournament. The Super Kings are yet to announce the replacement for the all-rounder. There are not many all-rounders who could do the job of Jamieson. Dasun Shanaka can be a perfect replacement for the Super Kings.

The New Zealand coach said that

“It’s been a challenging and difficult time for Kyle and a big loss for us, He’s been fantastic around all of our sides when he’s been part of them. We just wish him well and hope we’ll know more in three to four months of what that end prognosis looks for him as well.”

He further added that

“A number of world-class players have had surgery in the back and it’s different periods of time they recover. We just want Kyle (to get) the best chance of recovery because we know what a star he’s been for us. Surgery provides a quicker return to play and that’s the encouraging thing for him.”
