According to The Athletic, Steve Bruce is interested in taking the job at United. The job as Manchester United’s manager remains vacant as Michael Carrick is the caretaker manager for now. Another option linked to being the interim manager is Laurent Blanc. Manchester United had to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following a recent dip in their results.
Nobody at United must’ve seen the dip in results coming after good last season and a great summer transfer window. This season was deemed to be a huge success following the signings of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, United have struggled massively in all of their games this season and did what had to be done by sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
United’s current plan is to look for an interim manager and then get a permanent manager in the summer. Carrick is currently their caretaker manager who will lead them in two big games against Villarreal and Chelsea. While Steve Bruce has emerged in the talk around the club to be the interim manager. Newcastle United also sacked Steve Bruce following their recent Arab takeover. Bruce believes that he can ‘stabilize’ the United dressing room.
Why Steve Bruce to United is not the perfect decision?
Eddie Howe has replaced Steve Bruce as the new Newcastle manager. Steve Bruce took over Newcastle in 2019 and he did not have a very record at the club. He struggled a lot at the Newcastle job having only a win percentage of 27.4% after 84 league games. In the later stages, he was in charge of Newcastle only to complete his 1000th game as a manager. He was only the 34th manager to do so. He also had the pressure of succeeding the fan-favourite Rafael Benitez.
If he has struggled at Newcastle it makes very little sense for him to succeed at United. Even if he stabilizes the dressing room the problem which Ole had will still remain. Many regard Ole as being tactically inept and it is the same situation with Steve Bruce. United currently needs a manager who is tactically strong and brings energy and mentality to the players. Appointing an interim manager is going to be a far difficult job than it seems for United. They will have to be very careful with the appointment and not rush to conclusions. Similar mistakes in the past have seen United suffer due to right appointments at the wrong time or wrong appointments at right time.
The Red Devils have to be very careful with all their decisions from now on as this is a very negative period for the club. To get back on track they have to do everything right. Steve Bruce’s appointment can cause anger among fans and will not help the club at all. It is better if they remain patient with the interim appointment and see if there are other options. However, their first choice for a permanent manager is Mauricio Pochettino and as per reports, he is ready to leave PSG in midseason for the United job.
