Luis Suarez will put an end to his career in Europe after agreeing a deal with his boyhood club Nacional. The player had a 15-year span of playing football in Europe playing for Groningen, Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
Now, Suarez himself commented that he will re-join his boyhood club Nacional after his contract at Atletico Madrid expired. Coincidentally, he came up through the ranks of Nacional after eventually moving to Europe in 2006. Since then, he spent his career at Netherlands, England, Spain. But now he will return to his homeland.
Suarez is one of the best striker of this generation netting over 500 goals for both his clubs and country. He played for some of the biggest European clubs winning loads of titles along his career. Now back at Uruguay, he said in a social media video:
“I’ve now reached a pre-agreement in order to join Nacional, it was impossible for me to say no to this opportunity. I hope they will resolve the final details soon in order to complete the deal officially.”
What did Suarez say earlier this month?
However, a month ago there was a possibility that Suarez will join Argentine club River Plate. Alongside he also dropped a hint on joining Nacional.
“I was very excited about the possibility of going to River Plate to fight to win the Copa Libertadores. It was a dream that I want to win a cup in South America. However, as soon as River were eliminated that possibility is over.”
“A month and a half ago I declared that I was not going to leave Europe, but River insisted and insisted so much that I came to consider that possibility. As much as one says something, when the time comes you will consider it. You are excited that they love you so much. A player needs to see affection. River was giving it to me and Nacional could have tried that.”
