Amidst all the curiosity around who will bat at No.4, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has put forward his views on the No.4 batsman for India.

India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2023 includes two wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul. However, as per the statement of BCCI’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, KL is carrying another fresh niggle. Therefore, he has to miss out on a few games of the tournament. Hence, Ishan Kishan might be the first choice as the wicketkeeping batsman for India in the Asia Cup 2023 and the World Cup. Now, at what position should Ishan Kishan fit in as a batter?

What did the former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar say?

Replying to the remarks of ex-coach of India Ravi Shastri, the former legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar said that he disagrees with his idea. The former batsman said that Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as an opening pair should not be disturbed. He also stated that he disagrees with the idea of Rohit Sharma demoting himself from opening position and giving Ishan Kishan a chance instead of him.

Sunil Gavaskar backed the idea of Virat Kohli batting at No.4. In an Interview with India Today, Sunil Gavaskar stated

“Any team has to be flexible, but I don’t want to disturb the top order. I don’t think Rohit Sharma should be looking to bat down the order. Yes, you can look at having Kohli at No. 4, particularly, if a wicket falls early because the new ball can do some early damage”

Should Virat Kohli bat at No.4 Position?

Virat Kohli has predominantly batted at No.3 since his debut in the ODI. Batting at No.3, he has scored 39 centuries, the second-highest after the greatest Sachin Tendulkar’s 49 centuries for India.
