It was thought that Ralf Rankgnick was happy to stay at Manchester United next season. However, that was not to be.
The German coach spoke to the media after United’s loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend. He there detailed about continuing his role as a consultant at the Old Trafford.
However, United announced on Sunday that Rangnick would be leaving the club before starting his consultancy role. The German had already previously taken up the role of coaching at the Austrian national team.
What did Manchester United say about Rangnick leaving the club?
The club stated on its website: “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months. By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.”
This came as a surprise to many of the fans after Rangnick’s comments at the post-match conference after Crystal Palace’s match. He detailed the press about getting into the role of the consultancy and his chats with the new manager Erik Ten Hag about the same.
He said,” We’ve been in contact via WhatsApp and hopefully we will have the opportunity to meet and speak in person, either at the weekend or Monday morning at the latest. I’m looking forward to speaking to him in person and getting to know him in person.”
He even added:” We spoke about that [his consultancy] in detail. About all the different areas where I could maybe be of help. It’s not that easy or not that difficult to know in which areas this could be. I think we showed that in the last 15 years with Hoffenheim, Salzburg and Leipzig, even for clubs not as prominent as Manchester United, it’s possible to identify, develop and even at one stage sell.”
