Sven Botman will be traveling to Tyneside to complete a move to Newcastle United. The Magpies have beaten A.C Milan in a race to sign the defender. The Toon Army are closing on a transfer for the Dutch defender. He has been on the radar since January. However, Lille refused to let him leave as they were in the Champions League.

SVEN BOTMAN AND NEWCASTLE UNITED TRANSFER SAGA FULL STORY

According to reports, the 22-year-old is set to travel to North East this week to undergo a medical and put pen to paper on a deal. Newcastle are set to pay €37m (£32m) for Botman. The defender will be signing a long-term contract. Although, it is not clear how long the contract would be.

Howe’s defence will finally be complete with Botman. The uncapped Dutchman would be the fourth-center back in the first team. It will also mean Federico Fernandez and Ciaran Clark will be sold as they are surplus to requirements.

THE DUTCHMAN IS EXPECTED TO IMMEDIATELY UPGRADE NEWCASTLE’S DEFENCE

The signing of Botman will finally sort out Newcastle’s defensive problems. Only five Premier League teams conceded more goals than Newcastle United (62) last season. They also only had 8 clean sheets last season. So it was quite evident Eddie Howe was going to bolster his backline this summer. However the signings of Dan Burn and Matt Target last season helped them avoid relegation. Fabian Schar also formed a solid partnership with Dan Burn.

However, the holes in the magpie’s defence was quite clear. They conceded many last-minute goals which in certain times dragged the toon army into the relegation battle. So the signing of Botman seems a big upgrade in the defense area of the team.

The signing of Botman makes it quite clear Newcastle are building a fortress here. With the money, Eddie Howe has at his disposal there is a 100% chance the dream of winning trophies can come true for the coaching staff, owners, and fans.
