Eric Ten Hag admits new signing Andre Onana has been a disappointment for Manchester United since joining the club this summer.

According to The Sun, United are reconsidering signing David De Gea on a short-term deal this winter. They’ll be short on goalkeepers, when Onana joins the national side in Africa Cup of Nations.

De Gea was the number one man at United for last 12 years. The Spaniard left the club this summer, after his contract got expired.

Hence, Onana was signed from Italian outfit Inter Milan for a fee of £42 million. However, the Cameroonian International had a shambolic start to his career at United.

Meanwhile, speaking ahead of Manchester Derby this weekend, Eric Ten Hag admits that Onana has not been upto the mark. He said :-

“You give him the standards and also the expectations, but also it’s about getting to the same level.

“He has high expectations from himself. We give him the confidence, look what you did in the past for great clubs in great leagues, you have the ability and the skills.

“The last two games were good progress, now we have to keep this going. It’s very good but at Manchester United good is not good enough.”

Ten Hag praised Onana for his heroics in Champions League

After Onana’s stoppage time penalty save to secure 1:0 victory over Copenhagen, Ten Hag praised his shot-stopper and said :-

“He showed personality.

“He knows that before, given the levels of what his skills are, he didn’t match his skills and he could do better.

“I think on Saturday [against Sheffield United] it was a very good performance and today as well.

“Don’t forget that brilliant save just after half-time in the counter-attack. And also don’t forget, one of his skills is he’s a very good penalty saver.”
