Chelsea are close to sealing a deal with Thiago Silva after their January spree. Chelsea have splashed enough amount this transfer window. But they were also looking into the contracts of their senior players. The Blues were busy signing some of Europe’s best talents this transfer window. However, they were also holding talks with Thiago Silva in the background as well. The 38-year-old have been an influential player for Chelsea for some time now. No other Premier League club have come close to matching Chelsea in the transfer window. The Blues have signed eight players in the transfer window. This included the World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez. Chelsea signed him on the deadline for a record-breaking transfer fee. The Blues broke their own transfer record by signing the player. Thiago Silva is close to signing another deal with the Blues.
Thiago Silva holding talks with Chelsea for a new contract
Silva have established himself as one of the most influential players in the Chelsea squad. The player joined the Blues back in 2020 from Paris Saint-Germain. Thiago Silva have made nearly 100 appearances for the Blues since joining them back in the summer of 2020. But the player is due to become a free agent by the end of the season. Therefore Chelsea are keen on offering one of their consistent players a new deal to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge. Thiago Silva have informed that he is closer to striking an agreement with the club. He said,
“We are negotiating. Everything will probably happen in the next few days. My intention, and that of the club as well, is to stay together. I know that the club needs me right now.”
He further added,
“I am here to be able to help, they are young players, anyway. I know that, with my experience, I can help in this process of rebuilding the club, I’m here for that, willing to do this, however, I know that my responsibility is very great.”
Thiago Silva is rated highly by the Chelsea manager Graham Potter since joining the Blues. He quickly realized how integral Silva is to the Chelsea team. Therefore he would want the player to stay at Stamford Bridge. However, the final decision lies with Thiago Silva. And by the looks of it, he is close to signing a new deal with the Blues.
