Thomas Partey returns from injury for Arsenal

Amid a torrid start to the season, Partey returns from injury to hand a boost to Arsenal. Also making a comeback are center-halves Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes.

The Ghanaian has been on the sidelines for 5 weeks. He picked up an ankle injury after Ruben Loftus-Cheek scythed him down from behind in a pre-season friendly against London rivals Chelsea.

This ruled him out of subsequent Premier League clashes with the Blues, Brentford and Manchester City. Partey has missed 21 games through injury during his troubled first year at the Emirates.

Thomas Partey has returned to full training and should be in contention to feature in the home game with Norwich on Saturday.

Partey return a major boost to Arsenal

Partey’s return comes at the perfect time given the Covid-stricken Granit Xhaka has picked up a 3 game ban. However, the Ghanaian midfielder will not be fit enough to travel with his country for the World Cup qualifier with Gabon.

Centre-backs White and Gabriel returned to the group following a COVID-19 infection and a knee injury respectively. The Gunners will now look to re-erect their defence which has shipped 9 goals in the league so far.

Out-of-favour striker Eddie Nketiah has managed to shake off an ankle problem. Nonetheless, Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac both picked up injuries while on international duty.

Arteta’s side are looking to secure their first points of the new Premier League campaign following a woeful start to the season. The Gunners currently sit at the bottom of the table following their 5-0 defeat thumping to Manchester City prior to the international break.

Arsenal have faced heavy criticism for their business in the transfer window. They have been accused of bringing in too many inexperienced players. But the club’s technical director Edu is adamant that the team are on the right path:

What I would like to explain is that is is not about this summer, it is about the project. It is about what we want to do

he told Arsenal’s official website.
