Thomas Tuchel claimed that he had doubts about Mateo Kovacic’s defensive qualities at Chelsea.
According to the Athletic, Tuchel didn’t trust Kovacic’s ability to play in the roles occupied by Ngolo Kante and Jorginho at Chelsea.
The Croatian has experienced mixed form this season, with injuries constantly disturbing his progress in Blues.
Mateo Kovacic played an important role in Croatia’s third-place finish at last year’s FIFA World Cup.
Chelsea have struggled this season, currently sitting in 9th position. With some Star-studded signings in January, the Blues will fight back to improve their performance for the rest of the season. And with Ngolo Kante absent due to a Hamstring injury, Kovacic would have played an important role in Chelsea’s Midfield.
TUCHEL WAS NOT SURE OF KOVACIC’S ABILITIES
Kovacic’s season has been cut short by injury and frankly speaking he hasn’t been able to replace Kante in Chelsea’s midfield.
However Athletic claims, Tuchel had difficulties to believe in Croatian’s ability in midfield despite being a fan of his technical abilities.
With Chelsea signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a club-record fee of £132m, all eyes will be on who partners him in midfield. The Argentine had a great debut against Fulham at Stanford Bridge. He paired with Conor Gallagher, who might leave the club next season.
This might lead to an opportunity for the 28-year-old but there is no certainty about his future. Henceforth he might exit this summer.
However, with some amazing prospects available in the next transfer market. Chelsea will be looking to re-enter the bidding wars for another star midfielder.
The Blues will like to find the winning ways back in new season. Potter will also change his fortune at Stanford Bridge.
